Cleanings

Getting regular dental cleanings and check-ups is an investment in your overall health. Research has shown and that there is a link between poor oral health and stroke, heart disease, preterm birth and low birth weight. Moreover, people with gum disease are more likely than those with healthy gums to be infected with Helicobacter pylori, the bacteria that cause stomach ulcers and chronic bad breath. Severe periodontal disease, as an inflammatory process, can also increase blood sugar level, contributing to increased periods of time when the body functions with a high blood sugar. This puts people with diabetes at increased risk for diabetic complications. Pregnant women with severe gum disease may also be affected being at higher risk of developing pregnancy (gestational) diabetes.
